Alioune was asked by the museum to create a mural during opening hours. As visitors, you can follow the creation process and engage in conversation with Alioune dancing and painting. He can be met Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The exhibitions will take place through June 19, 2023.

Alioune (Lune) Diagne (Saint-Louis, 1982) was born in Senegal and has lived and worked in Kampen since 2017. He has a passion for both dance and visual arts. Alioune studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dakar and initially focused on his career as a dancer and choreographer. For the past decade, he has been building his cultural incubator in Saint-Louis, Senegal, where he organizes the annual international festival Duo Solo Danse. His dance productions can be seen worldwide.

In recent years, Diagne has also refocused on his development as a visual artist. His cultural roots are an important inspiration for him, both in his dance and visual work. He presents his sculptures and paintings as a total work, which often includes performances. Alioune interweaves his disciplines effortlessly. He is in search of the common thread that connects his different worlds. His life in Kampen and his family keep him here, but his family in Senegal is also very important to him. He breaks through the expectations his family has of him and their cultural traditions, but he incorporates them into his art expressions. He asks himself, What is passed on? What do you carry over? What do you let go of? Alioune seeks a balance in this. As a positive-minded world traveler, with contacts and friends all over the world, he feels at home everywhere quite easily.

Stedelijk Museum Kampen has asked Alioune Diagne to create a mural in the museum, in the small room The Gallery. This will take place during the museum's opening hours, so that visitors can follow the creation and the process of making it, and have a conversation with the artist. While painting and dancing, he makes The Gallery his studio. The theme is the connection between his hometown of Kampen and his hometown of Saint-Louis. For Alioune, the two cities are not that different. He has a fresh perspective on a world where people seem to focus mainly on the differences.
