Hasselt has so much to offer you that we can safely say that a visit to our characteristic Hanseatic city is more than worthwhile.
By the way, did you know that Hasselt is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in the Netherlands and is part of the route from St. Jacobiparochie in Friesland to Santiago de Compostella in Spain? That Hasselt's center has been designated a protected cityscape?
With over 70 national monuments, a beautiful ring of canals, beautiful churches, a possibility to climb the tower, visit the corn mill De Zwaluw, historic lime kilns with an information center and the Van Stolk Park, a special Arboretum-Heempark with many different trees and shrubs.
So there is a lot to admire in Hanseatic City Hasselt. And let's not forget to mention the Stenendijk, a very old dam from a distant past, when high water from the Zuiderzee was still a threat to our city.
